Four Freedoms--2001

Four freedoms

Microphone and stand, pine, blanket, hot plate, carpet, midget crutches
Dimensions variable
1/1

This installation was conceived as a sculptural homage to Norman Rockwells’ painting entitled “The Four Freedoms,” which was used in propaganda posters by the U.S. government during WWII.
The installation consists of a triangular platform constructed in the corner of the gallery covered with grey office-style carpeting. In the center is a wooden leaf trap/drain opening made of pine with an inlaid manhole cover on top. Around it on the stage is a microphone, a grey blanket, a hotplate and a pair of midget crutches. The piece was shown at the green door for the exhibition Places & Things. The stage was later destroyed and I have no documentation of it. The image above is a 3-Dimensional rendering of the project.
